aticfx64.dll - When trying to run games like Freecell, I get "c:\windows\system32\aticfx64.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or"
I think this is a Driver problem. I have an ASUS EAH5970 graphics card that replaced my old 9800 GX2, and I installed the latest drivers (twice at least). Although this was a card that was just RMA'd, it had been in my computer working fine for months before I temporarily put in the 9800GX2, and seems to be working fine except for when I try to start some microsoft bundled games: When trying to run games like Freecell or Solitaire, I get: "c:\windows\system32\aticfx64.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software support vendor." and then "No suitable graphics device found" When running dxdiag, I get the following for the display driver: The file aticfx64.dll, aticfx64.dll, aticfx64.dll, aticfx32, aticfx32, aticfx32, atiumd64.dll, atidxx64.dll, atidxx64.dll, atiumdag, atidxx32, atidxx32, atiumdva, atiumd6a.cap, atitmm64.dll is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer. I have driver version 8.751.0.0 (6/22/2010) ATI Technologies Inc.

You should have uninstalled the nVidia software before switching cards and installing ATI software. Unistalled the ATI software. Reinstall the 9800 GX2 and then uninstall the nVidia software Reinstall the EAH5970 and reinstall the ATI software. You may need to contact ATI and/or nVidia Technical Support for one or more utilities to clean up your system. If this doesn't help, then you may have to do a clean reinstallation of your Windows 7. You have created software and driver confliction within the operating system and it may not be correctable. P.S. The ATI Catalyst drivers are fully functional and compatible with Windows 7, both 32-bit and 64-bit. I have had them on three systems since last year without any problems. Arthur, Freecell and Solitaire are two of the games Microsoft distributes with Windows 7, so I would presume thay are Windows 7 compatible. I have no problem with either game on my Windows 7 x64 systems. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Oh. If it is the built-in Freecell game, there should not be compatibility problems. Reinstalling ATI driver and software should help. The file should be installed and registered when the driver was installed the first time. I suspect that some programs such as antivirus blocked it. Temporary disabling antivirus before installing may be better. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
